How the Metropolitan Opera made their rush ticket lottery program accessible for everyone

The Metropolitan Opera in New York is undeniably one of the most significant opera houses in the world. The Metropolitan Opera, or simply the MET: three letters are enough to set any opera lover's heart racing. What began in 1883 as the ambitious project of a few opera-obsessed New York businessmen on Broadway quickly evolved in splendor and glory into one of the world's most important stages. Today, the Met Opera is the largest classical music organization in North America.
The Metropolitan Opera sought to modernize and enhance its rush program with a digital solution, aiming to create a seamless, mobile-first experience for audiences. The challenge was to integrate the rush program with a digital app that would improve audience engagement, increase revenue, and support various ticketing and payment options, all while aligning with their Tessitura ticketing system.
In collaboration with Made Media, we developed the new Met Opera App, a fully integrated digital tool designed to elevate the rush program. The app features a unique Rush Lottery system, allowing users to enter multiple lotteries and opt for auto payment. It offers a sleek user experience with integration to Tessitura, supports single ticket sales and various payment methods including Apple Pay and Google Pay, and provides digital ticketing options. Future updates will include social features, enhanced content, and a comprehensive ticket history.
The new Met Opera App successfully transformed the rush program, providing a modern and engaging mobile ticketing experience. The integration with Tessitura and advanced features like the rush Lottery and multiple payment options increased audience engagement and revenue. The app's user-friendly design and support for digital tickets have enhanced the Metropolitan Opera's digital strategy and will continue to evolve with additional features.
